Someone wrote commenting on Miami and coach George G.s' (you try to spell
it!) habit of alternating starting goalies. Shulmistra is by far the better
of the two goalies. But just as he did early last season, coach G. would
start Shulmistra on friday night an DeShambeau (sp?) on saturday. When
DeShambeau got in trouble he would bring in Shulmistra. Coach G. continued
this practice until later in the season when the conference race began to
heat up. DeShambeau played well enough to start games into the new year.
Also, Miamis' schedule last year did not start out as rough as this year.
I think the strategy is good because it gives the #2 goalie some game time
without the late season pressure. This strategy failed him last saturday
night when Michigan St. got by Miami, due mostly to DeShambeau getting
nailed for 3 goals in the first period. However, I think that Miamis'
remaining schedule will allow coach G. to continue this strategy without
taking too many hits in the loss collumn.
