THREE GOPHERS TO PLAY FOR U.S. UNDER-22 SELECT TEAM
Three members of Minnesota's 2000 American Women's College Hockey
Alliance National Championship team have been chosen to play for the U.S.
Womenıs Under-22 Select Team in a three-game exhibition series versus
Canada, Aug. 24-28, in Calgary, Alberta.
Earning spots on the team were forwards Ronda Curtin (So., Roseville,
Minn./Roseville Area) and Laura Slominski (Jr., Burnsville,
Minn./Burnsville) along with defense Courtney Kennedy (Sr., Woburn,
Mass./Buckingham Browne & Nichols). Slominski and Kennedy were members of
the gold medal-winning team at the USA Hockey Women's Festival last week.
The Gophers were the only team to place three players on the U.S.
under-22 team. Two other Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's
League players made the squad. Goalies Melissa Glaser, of Ohio State, and
Jackie MacMillan, of Wisconsin, are the other WCHA representatives on the
team.
National team coach Ben Smith, who guided the U.S. to the gold medal at
the 1998 Olympics, will coach the team while Wisconsin head coach Julie
Sasner will serve as his assistant.
