Defenseman Ray Giroux, a star at Yale the last four years, was acquired
by the New York Islanders from the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. New
York gave up a sixth-round draft choice in 2000 to get Giroux. He was a
finalist for last year's Hobey Baker Award, given to the top player in
college hockey. The 22-year-old from North Bay, Ontario, was ECAC Player
of the Year, the conference's best defenseman and a first-team
All-America.
