In a game played on the 20th of February, the Merrimack Warriors lost
to the University of New Hampshire Wildcats 6-2.

Merrimack looked good for a while in the first period, but they weren't
hitting on all eight cylinders, and thus extended their season long losing
streak to seven.

The first period was scoreless. The first half of the period belonged to
Merrimack, but they couldn't score. The second half belonged to UNH.

The first goal of the game came at 5:11 of the second period. UNH's Joe
Flanagan scored on a power play. Matt Hentges was off for Merrimack for
a cross check. The assists went to Domenic Amodeo and Kevin Dean.

Merrimack tied the score at one at 8:32. On a power play, Dan Gravelle
scored from Rob Atkinson. Mark McGinn was off for UNH for roughing.

UNH scored the next three goals. At 11:48, Flanagan scored on another
power play. The assists went to Amodeo and Scott Morrow.

At 15:10, UNH's Chris Winnes scored to make it 3-1. The assists went
to Jim McGrath and Flanagan.

UNH closed the second period scoring at 19:39 when Winnes scored his
second of the game. The assist went to Flanagan.

In the third, Merrimack closed the gap to 4-2. Dan Gravelle scored at the
3:29 mark and the Warrior fans were thinking comeback. The goal was
unassisted.

At 8:12, the hopes of a comeback ended when Flanagan scored the hat trick.
The assists went to Winnes and Amodeo .

UNH closed the scoring at 15:31. A mute point, the goal scorer was in the
crease when he scored it. Kevin Thomson scored a shorthanded goal. The
assist went to David MacIntyre. McGrath was off for holding for UNH.

Scoring by periods:

UNH 0 4 2 - 6
Merrimack 0 1 1 - 2

Shots on goal:

UNH 13 12 15 - 40
Merrimack 10 16 10 - 36

Saves:

Levy (UNH) 11 15 9 - 35
Gosselin (MC) 13 8 13 - 34

Pipes: UNH hit one in the third period.

Personal remarks:

A major lineup change for Merrimack was no Howie Rosenblatt. He wasn't
played in favor of a kid who isn't even on the Merrimack roster. His
name was MacLeod. The line up change wasn't for the better I'm afraid. Howie
may get a few penalties, but he also can score, and his spirit seems to
pick the team up.

Merrimack hopes to end the seven game skid when the play the University
of Lowell Chiefs Saturday night. It'll be the last Merrimack regular season
game of the year.

The playoff picture for Merrimack (all 8 teams in HE make it) didn't
get cleared up tonight as BU apparently won. A late score I got was 7-4
BU. If Maine loses to UNH Saturday, and BU beats BC this weekend, Merrimack
plays BU. If Maine wins, and BU wins, the still play BU. If BU beats BC,
and Maine loses to UNH, Merrimack will play Maine.

Also, a minor upset tonight, Providence 3, Boston College 2.

So long, and I hope Merrimack wins Saturday.

Kevin
