From today's (10/9/92) Star Tribune "Minnesota Scene" column:

Sophomore Steve Magnusson's second goal lifted the Golds to a 4-4 tie with
the Maroons in the Gophers hockey team's first intrasquad scrimmage last night
at Mariucci Arena. Scott Bell and Joe Dziedzic, who played wings with
freshman Brian Bonin, also scored for the Golds, while the Maroon team got
a goal from junior Craig Johnson and one apiece from freshman linemates
Dave Larson, Dan Woog, and Jim Hillman. Senior goaltender Tom Newman allowed
two goals, while sophomore Jeff Callinan and freshman Jeff Moen yielded three
each.

The Gophers will have another intrasquad Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

This was good news because of the freak accident Magnusson suffered this
summer. He fell while attempting to catch a football on a camping trip. He
couldn't break his fall because he was holding an axe, and fell so that a twig
pierced his eardrum and broke the bones in his ear. According to an article
in "Hockey, the Art of the State" magazine, he lost 80% of his hearing in
that ear and his balance was affected, at least in late summer hockey league
games, but it sounds like he's doing okay now!

Of course, it's also good news that the freshmen seemed to do well, after all
the important players the Gophs lost last year!
