Well, its often been said that tie games are "like kissing your sister," but its better than some of the other options.  For instance, settling things with shoot-outs doesn't make sense because in essence it is deciding a hockey game by playing something other than hockey.

If they really want to eliminate ties, they should choose to eliminate ties -- just keep playing until someone wins.  It works for the playoffs, why not the RS?  It really could be that simple, and it beats the contrived overtime-loss-point incentive, and the rule-bending 4-on-4 overtime.
