Tonight, after the PC-MC game, Heather and I headed up to Methuen, MA
(ten min away) where a good friend of mine, Mike Jankowski, was
playing for the Lawrence Sons of Italy in a no-check league. Heather
is the "GM" of the team. BTW, also playing in the league is a J.
Ingraham. He leads the league in scoring (Mike is second) and he is
the brother of Bob and Cal. His team played in the second game
and we spotted him when he walked in wearing Maine hockey sweats with
#31 on them. Not too difficult to figure out where he got those. :-)

Anyway, another player on the Sons team was telling Heather and me
that he'd been up to Plattsburgh last weekend and apparently the tv
series "Rescue 911" was filming for a soon to be aired segment. The
segment deals with the near death of Elmira's Mike McNamara on the ice
during an NC$$ DivIII playoff game in March, 1992. Some may recall,
McNamara received a (clean) check at center ice and fell backwards,
his head hitting the ice. According to Heather, who was there,
McNamara technically died three times while being attended to on the
ice. He spent several days in the hospital in Plattsburgh but fully
recovered and returned to play for Elmira the following season.

Apparently with Elmira playing at Plattsburgh last weekend, they
re-enacted the incident for the film crews. A large group of people
were recruited to come in and play the part of fans, sitting in the
section opposite where the on-ice film crews were, to make it as
realistic as possible.

I don't usually watch Rescue 911, but hopefully someone can let us
know when the segment is scheduled to air so we can tune in. It's a
different way for college hockey to get national publicity, that's for
sure. BTW, Heather presented a talk on the incident and the way it
was handled for a public speaking course she was taking at the time,
so she remembers it well.
