From the banks of the quite frozen Red Cedar River tonight at Munn Arena, what
should have been the battle for second place in the CCHA takes place between
the Michigan State Spartans and the Falcons of Bowling Green. BGSU appears to
be coming in sort of flat after consecutive losses to UIC and Notre Dame. MSU
has had a week to rest after a rather successful trip to Ohio, with wins over
OSU and Kent, where the idea of "team offense" seems to have taken hold for
the Green and White. Nine different players (8 forwards, 1 defenseman) con-
tributed to the Spartans' 16 goal output in the two victories, led by Anson
Carter with four and Kelly Harper with his first career hat trick in the
victory over Kent. Carter, in particular, needed the rest after returning from
the WJC in Prague on Wednesday and then playing in both games on Friday and
Saturday.

With BGSU's loss last night and Lake Superior tying OSU, the Spartans still havea two-point edge on the Lakers and three on the Falcons for second place in the
CCHA. A victory tonight would be a much-needed boost heading into the home-and-home with Michigan next week (first place isn't totally out of the question, butit's fading real damn fast).

Since someone mentioned in a recent posting the existence of a DivI College
Hockey Manual, does anyone out there know how I might obtain a copy of the 1993-94 edition?

Question of the Day: So how many morons will there be in Rich Stadium today for the Raiders-Bills game without shirts on?
Answer: At least five. I mean, they have to spell out the name of the home
team, don't they? Just hope they don't decide to spell out "Buffalo."
Wind chill of -40 for game time.
