BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- Freshman Eric Boguniecki picked up a
feed from Glenn Stewart and wristed a shot to the top corner with
3:36 remaining to lift New Hampshire to an upset 3-2 win over
Boston in the championship of the Sheraton-USAir Hockey Classic.
Stewart wrestled the puck away from two Boston defensemen and
dropped a pass into the slot where Boguniecki picked top corner
over goalie J.P. McKersie.
Boston raced to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by
forward Doug Friedman at 9:12 and defenseman Dan Donato at 14:02.
However, the Wildcats chipped away, scoring a power play goal
at 10:56 of the second period by defenseman Scott Malone. Then
Stewart tied the game at 6:04 with a shot to the top right corner
over McKersie's stick.
The Terriers pulled McKersie with 1:29 left in regulation and
mounted pressure, but New Hampshire's Mike Heinke met the
challenge, particularly a game-saving save off Steve Thornton in
the slot with seconds remaining.
New Hampshire improved to 13-3-1, while Boston, ranked No. 2
in the country, dropped to 11-4.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- Phil Eboli's unassisted goal with 1:07
of the first period left held up as the game-winner as Vermont
edged Dartmouth 3-1 in a penalty-filled consolation game at the
Sheraton-USAir Hockey Classic Thursday.
Eboli picked up a loose puck and fired on Dartmouth's Mike
Bracco, who made the save. But the rebound came right to the
sophomore right winger and he picked the short side to give
Vermont a 2-0 lead.
Vermont's Eric Perrin scored at 8:26 of the first period to
give the Catamounts a lead they never gave up. Perrin took a feed
from Matt Johnson and swept in a backhander.
Dartmouth's Bracco finished with 30 saves, including 12 in the
final period.
Vermont's Tim Thomas lost his bid for a shutout when Mike Stacchi
beat him with a slap shot from 20 feet at 13:42 of the third
period. Thomas finished with 22 saves against the Big Green.
Brian Leddy put the game out of reach with a slap shot from
the top of the face-off circle with 1:32 left in the game.
Vermont moved to 5-6-1 and Dartmouth dropped to 2-7.
