CANTON, N.Y. (AP) -- Spencer Meany's second goal was
the difference Friday night as St. Lawrence skated to a
3-2 victory over Union in the Eastern College Athletic
Conference opener for both teams.
The Saints (2-2, 1-0) dominated the first period,
outshooting Union 24-2. The barrage of shots yielded
a single goal until freshman defenseman Troy Creurer
scored his first college goal on an assist from Tom
Perry and Mike Allain.
Meany scored his first goal of the night on a power
play from Allain and Mike McCourt 46 seconds into the
second period, but Union (2-1,0-1) retaliated at
16:04. Reid Simonton converted on a back hand from in
close.
Meany's second goal came just 28 seconds later as he
snuck one between Union goalie Mike Gallant and the post.
Union scored the only goal of the third period on a
power play shot by Chris Ford at 8:04 as the puck
glanced off the skate of Saint defender and past goalie
Paul Sapgnoletti.
Gallant finished with 36 saves for the Saints.
