PREVIEW OF THE 1993-94 CLARKSON UNIVERSITY GOLDEN KNIGHTS

ECAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS: 1966 1991 1993
NCAA TOURNAMENT PARTICIPANTS: 1957 1958 1962 1963 1966 1970
                              1981 1984
NCAA FINAL FOUR: 1962 1966 1970 1991
NCAA FINALISTS: 1962 1966 1970

Second all-time winningest team in ECAC history (first in winning pct).
-------------------------------------------------------

1992-93 RESULTS
20-10-5 overall 12-6-4 in ECAC play
Won ECAC Tournament Lost in NCAA first round

PLAYERS GRADUATED: Hugo Belanger, Steve Dubinsky, Dave Green, Mikko
Tavi, Martin dOrsonnens, Guy Sanderson and Chris Rogles

PLAYERS OTHERWISE GONE: Todd Marchant (US Olympic Team)

-------------------------------------------------------

PLAYER PREVIEW- FORWARDS

Craig Conroy, Sr: Strong, powerful skater with long reach. Co-captain
this year and has 101 pts in 106 games

Shawn Fotheringham, Sr: Tenacious forechecker and good penalty killer.
Needs to cut down on bad penalties.

Patrick Theriault, Sr: Can double as blueliner. Plays on checking line.

Marko Tuomainen, Jr: Probably the team's most talented player. A front runner
for Player of the year award. Has cannon slap shot and excellent
        speed.

Patrice Robitaille, Jr: Not always the flashiest player on the ice
but always seems to get the puck where he wants it to. Excellent
passer who sets up his centers very well.

Dave Seitz, So: Spent most of his time last year on the checking line and
penalty killing units. Will be called to take more of a lead in
the latter role with the loss of Dave Green.

Kevin Murphy, So: Didn't play much early, but saw regular time down the
stretch. Hard working cornerman with good passing skills.

Chris deRuiter, So: Highly touted as a freshman but had his problems.
Seems to have trouble receiving passes, at times. If he can refine
that, he will probably develop into a solid power forward.

Chris Lipsett, So: Will probably see plenty of time of the power play and
penalty kill units. Has good vision on the ice.

Steve Palmer, So: Probably the only freshman from last year to contribute
offensively (24 pts). Should become a key player this year.

DEFENSEMEN
Ed Henrich, Sr: Co-captain has developed into one of the more solid
defensive defensemen in the league. Does have adept puckhandling
skills when necesary, as well. Good hands and a hard hitter. Will
need to take a big role in anchoring a very young defense.

Brian Mueller, Jr: Mueller is th eonly other Knight defenseman with much
expereince. Survived until the last cut for the US Olympic team.
Good physical player with a hard point shot. Does need to
        improve his lateral movement.

Josh Bartell, So: At 6'3 he's the tallest Golden Knight. Very physical
player who stands up at the blueline well. Needs to improve speed
        and puckhandling ability

GOALIE
Jason Currie, Sr: After three years in the shadow of Chris Rogles,
Currie will get the spotlight for himself. Currie did put up
numbers similar to Rogles in the last two years. In fact, it was
Currie who got the nod down the stretch in 1991-92. Currie is a
classic butterfly goalie with a lightning quick glove hand. Very
quick on his skates. Occassionally a little overaggressive.
Although Rogles played in most of the two ECAC tournaments won by
Clarkson during his tenure (91 and 93), the success couldnt have
happened (probably) without Currie. Currie and Rogles formed one of
the best goalie combonations in the country. Coach Mark Morris knew
he could put either one of the them in any game and still have a good
        chance to win.

THE FRESHMEN
Forwards: JEAN-FRANCOIS HOULE, son of former Canadien Reggie Houle, is the
highly touted star of the bunch. Good all-around player who can do just
about anything. TODD WHITE is actually one of the faster players on the team
and also has good puckhandling ability.

Defensemen: PHIL LECLAVALIER adds another rough player to the Knights
lineup. Pretty accurate shot, as well. MATT PAGNUTTI is a rugged player
whose good in the corners. ADAM WEISEL is probably the most impressive
freshmen in the two exhibitions I've seen. He has long reaching and
is a good skater. Should make a good impact this year.

Goalie: KERRY BLANCHARD, a Potsdam native, is quick on his skates with
an excellent glove hand. Top-notch stickhandler as well. A walk-on, he will
probably spend at least part of this year in JV. GREGG MALICKE will probably
back up Jason Currie. Very impressive in the exhibitions I've seen. Seems
to be strong from a technical aspect. Always stands his ground and keeps
himself in good position.

It will be interesting to see how the Knights do this year. The undisputed
key is the play of the freshmen defensemen. If they rise to the occassion,
Clarkson will have a very good year. If not,...
