Scores tonight in the WCHA:
Minnesota 2 North Dakota 2
Colorado College 4 F Boston Univ 6 F
Northern Mich 5 Minn-Duluth 5
Ferris State 3 F St Lawrence 8 F
Wisconsin 3
Denver 5 (3rd)
Gophers looked much better tonight. Moen was fabulous in goal. Again Bach for
CC was OUTSTANDING, standing on his lips at times to make the saves.
Minnesota again, took too many penalties and it really cost them the game.
The game was very physical, and forward Joe Dziedzic left the game during the
third period with a wrist injury. Alternate captain Jeff Nielsen lost his
cool when he was assessed a slashing penalty late in the third and received a
10-minute misconduct and a game disqualification. Tonight's game was more
intense with lots of heavy hits and cheap shots on both sides.
This is the first sweep for the Tigers of the Gophers since 1981. The soph.
goaltender Bach was the player of the game on the TV broadcast by Sportschannel
Quite an opening weekend for the Tigers.
This was also Homecoming weekend for Minnesota, and the Gopher Football team
knocked off nationally ranked Wisconsin 29-21 at the Metrodome this evening.
And on a related note....I went to the Homecoming parade this afternoon and
Herb Brooks was the Grand Marshall. As Herbie rode by we made alot of noise
and he smiled, waved and hollared "How are you doing?" Nice to be remembered
by him after all those years! A real class act, no matter what anyone has
told you. Also appearing in the parade was former cheerleader Bonnie
Hankinson, mother to Pete and Ben Hankinson who both played for the Gopher
Hockey team. And also Reed Larson, who looked surprised that two crazy
gals gave him so much attention screaming about hockey at the football
parade. ;-)
