Tuesday night, Maine took to the ice before approximately 2,000 fans for
the annual Blue/White scrimmage. It was the first formal performance
for the ice hockey Black Bears since the October 2nd Midnight Madness
(before approximately 3500 fans). They have learned a lot in the
interim, as much more defensively aware squads took to the ice.

 3. 15:28 White - Ingraham from Kariya.

Coach Shawn Walsh has some difficult decisions to make in the next few
days as he intends to cut 2-4 players from the current roster of about
34. (Junior G Greg Hirsch and some others have already been cut from
the initial roster of 41).

The decisions will be difficult because one could say good things about
the performance of every player. Some of the folks that impressed me,
but do not appear in the scoring include Justin Tomberlin, Jeff Libby,
Trevor Roenick and Chuck Texeira.

Walsh likes Blair Marsh in goal and I liked Peter Nordell, especially in
the away Blue (he played one period for each team). :-)

Tony Frenette doesn't become eligible to play until mid-season.

My pick for Freshman-of-the-Year: Tim Lovell. Runner-up: Reg Cardinal.
