Until this year, the CCHA played a balanced schedule exactly the way the
WCHA does. This year, with the addition of two new teams bringing the
conference to 11 members it was not possible to play every team 4 times
as the WCHA does, so the schedule was changed to play every team 3 times.
Of course this means you can't play all games as pairs, so while there
are times when two teams play each other twice on one weekend, there are
often times when a team plays two different opponents on one weekend.
This is no longer a balanced schedule, but it will be rotated from
one year to the next. For instance, this year MSU plays Bowling Green
twice at BG and once at MSU; next year two games will be at MSU and one
at BBG. (BG, that is)

Even HE has changed their scheduling from a balanced one (only the WCHA
now does it the way WCHA does it) so that there are two subidivisions
with each team playing 4 games against the other 3 teams in their
subdivison and 3 against each team in the other subdivision, so theirs
is no longer balanced either (it used to be). I take it you understand
the ECAC, but they don't play the same team on the same weekend either
(they play each other team only twice in the season, but not on the
same weekend.
