The #1 team in the ACHA, the Penn State Icers, closed out their regular season
home schedule with an 11-4 pounding of the Townson State Tigers. The closest
that the Tigers would come to Penn State was at 2-1 midway in the first, but
the Icers scored three more in the period to take a 5-1 lead after one. The
Icers wouldn't let up, outscoring Townson State 4-2 in the second, and 2-1 in
the third as head coach Joe Battista played lines that normally don't see much
time. John Gray picked up his 21st win of the season, extending his own team
record. Towson State falls to 20-8-1, while the Icers move to 26-0-0, tying the
team record for victories in a season. The Class of 1993 picked up their 100th
win with the victory. Penn State finished with a perfect 15-0-0 mark at home
in the regular season, and will look to go a perfect 28-0-0 for the entire
season as they travel to the University of Buffalo on Friday at Buffalo State
on Saturday. Earlier this season, the Icers clobbered the Thundering Herd of
the U. of Buffalo 20-0 and 10-2, and defeated the Buff State Bengals 7-2 and
9-3. Penn State will return to the Ice Pavilion on Feb 26-27 for the
Atlantic Collegiate Hockey League playoffs.
