Wayne sent me this email (and said i could respond to the list):

>>last time I checked, everybody in the band was a fan of their hockey team.
>>Everybody in the band cheers for their team and hopes they do well.
>>Everybody in the band pays $5 or whatever, when they go to a road game.

>No way. The majority of band members of every band I've known play for
>the sake of playing and their band, not for the game. Sure, they'll be
>a few hockey fans in any typical band (whatever that is), but the band
>isn't there for the hockey game, but for a chance to perform.

>At Maine, the Pepbands not only get in free, but are paid. Local High
>Schools that have the band play at sporting events, have school spirit,
>but aren't there for the game itself.

Well, i can only speak for Clarkson but that is certainly not
describe CU's pepband. First off, this is an engineering school... no one
is here for music. CU's pepband gets in free to home games but are NOT paid.
Not only are they not paid but they have to pay something like $20 in dues.
They get a little bit of money from the student senate but not too much.
Not only that, but most members I've talked too are relatively knowledgable
about hockey; many are familar with the ECAC as well as the other college hockey
leagues. I would say that most of them are definitely hockey fans.

>just my 2 cents worth :-)
>---wayne

Oh yeah, well mine is 2.03 cents (inflation). Nyah! :)

Besides, the central point is whether the bigshot alumni have more of a right
to enjoy the game (because they contribute $$$) than the penniless students.
Both have the right enjoy the game and show enthusiasm. Granted, there
has to be a middle ground found but that means that neither "side" is
going to have it 100% the way they like it.
