Well, the referees were the esteemed Noeth and McGonaghy. The
officiating was, in a word, horrible. There were a ridiculous number of
penalties called in the first and second periods, though they dried up a
bit in the third. I think there was about 5 minutes of 5-on-5 play
in each of the first two periods. The game was somewhat rough, but IMHO not
nearly enough to warrant the number of penalties called. If anyone, though,
the penalties favored Colgate, so it certainly wasn't an excuse for the outcome.
The game, incidentally, was very close. It was 0-0 after the first period,
1-1 after the second. RPI scored right away in the 3rd on a powerplay.
They went up 3-1 with about 10 minutes left, but Colgate came back a couple
of minutes later with a shorthanded goal to make it 3-2. That's basically
the way it ended, with RPI getting 2 empty net goals to pad the score.
Colgate generally outplayed RPI (shots were like 33-24 or so) but couldn't put
the puck in the net, especially on the many powerplays, where they waited
for the perfect shot. A lot like the Air Force game, where Colgate led in
the shot department 53-23 but still lost (a certain amount of credit to
Air Force's goalie). Ah well.

>Back to college hockey- one more thing: RPI goaltender Neil Little scored his
>3rd assist in Friday night's game! Is that incredible or what??!!

Our announcer mentioned on Saturday that in each of the three ECAC games
played on Friday night, a goalie got an assist, for a bit of a statistical
quirk. (Little's came on the 2nd empty netter.)
