Summary:

Union played right with Clarkson for 2 1/2 periods, but in the end,
Clarkson was too much for the Dutchmen, as they took a 5-2 ECAC win at
Achilles Rink. Clarkson got two goals each from Steve Dubinsky and
Marko Tuomainen, and some good goaltending from Chris Rogles.

Clarkson took a 1-0 lead on Kevin Murphy's goal at 5:48 of the first.
But Union fought back, and was able to tie the game on freshman
defenseman Shane Holunga's first collegiate goal at 16:23. Union
outshot Clarkson 12-6 in the period, although I thought Clarkson had a
lot more than 6 shots.

Union and Clarkson played a good and pretty even 2nd period. Dubinsky's
first goal of the night came on a power play at 17:57 and gave Clarkson
the 2-1 lead at the second intermission.

The Dutchmen tied it up in the 3rd on junior Steve Battiston's first
Division I goal at 6:02. But with defenseman Reid Simonton in the box
after taking a bad penalty, Clarkson took the lead for good on
Dubinsky's second goal. It was almost all Clarkson the rest of the
way. Tuomainen scored two unassisted goals to give the Golden Knights
the 5-2 win.

With the Union students on break, the crowd was smaller than the Vermont
crowd two weeks ago. I'd guess that about 1/3 of the crowd was for
Clarkson. Plus Clarkson had their band there. (I was more impressed by
their band last year.)

Joshua Haravay's stars of the game:
1) Marko Tuomainen, 2 unassisted goals, 1 assist.
2) Chris Rogles, 25 saves.
3) Steve Dubinsky, 2 goals, including Clarkson's go-ahead in the 3rd.

Union really played a pretty good game. For most of the game, they
played well enough to be able to beat Clarkson. A few lapses cost them,
and by the end of the game, Clarkson had worn them out and taken
control.

Union falls to 1-3 in the ECAC, 1-5 overall. Clarkson is now 2-2-1 in
the ECAC, 5-3-1 overall. Union and RPI switch partners tonight as Union
hosts St. Lawrence, and RPI hosts Clarkson. It could be a tough night
for the Dutchmen with SLU coming off a loss at RPI.
