Some Miscellaneous notes on St. Lawrence Hockey:

1. At HOME in 1992...
The Saints 1992 home schedule is already complete - leaving them
undefeated for 1992 in Appleton Arena. The only blemish was a 2-2
tie vs. Yale last January 3rd. Harvard will be the first to visit
in 1993 on January 8th.

2. SHUTOUTs of key rivals...
The home streak has included 5-0, 4-0, and 5-0 shutout victories
over Clarkson, Harvard, and Cornell - historically three of SLU's
toughest rivals.

3. Freshmen
Burke Murphy got the first two goals against Colgate (including
the one missing form Mike M's box) - one nearly identical to the
wrap-around goal he got the night before against Cornell. This gives
him five goals in the Saints first 7 games. The other freshmen
contributions have been on defense where Jeff Kungle has been a
a regular as apparently Tom Perry will be also now that he's back
from an early season injury. Chris Dashney has also seen action,
particularly when John Roderick was moved to offense when injuries
took an early season toll. This left SLU with a freshman on each
defensive pairing for several games.

4. Brady Giroux
The senior goaltender played back-to-back games for the first
time in his college career due to a shoulder injury that Paul
Spagnoletti suffered near the end of the Vermont game. 58 saves on
60 shots was a pretty decent result - including his first ever
shutout. He got banged around hard the last few minutes of the
Colgate game on wild pileups as everyone crashed the net - requiring
the trainer to come out with under two minutes left- but managed to
stay in the game and somehow keep Colgate out of the net. He should
be in goal against BC since it will be at least another week
before Spags comes back.

5. Colgate
How did Clarkson beat them 9-1 the night before - did they forget
to put out a goalie? After seeming outmanned the first five minutes
Colgate really hustled the rest of the game. Tough to see them as
an 0-6 team if they can continually put forth that sort of effort.
On the other hand, SLU probably shouldn't count on being able to
score when needed as the game winds down (as they have with UNH,
Dartmouth, Colgate, and to a lesser extent Cornell).

6. Canton Coaching Conference
Let's see if I can get this right. Colgate coach Don Vaughn played
at Canton Tech and SLU, was an assistant coach with travel partner
Cornell and had a turn assisting Joe Marsh at SLU when current
Clarkson coach Mark Morris was also an assistant here. Current
assistants Paul Flanagan (SLU) and Andy Taylor (Cornell) both played
hockey for Canton HS. Morris played high school hockey at nearby
Massena.

7. Lady Saints
SLU's Women started their season this past weekend with a
5-3 victory over Cornell before dropping a 6-2 decision to
Dartmouth.
