In a game that was not well-played nor well-officated, but was fun to watch,
OSU defeated Bowling Green 7-5 at the Ice Rink Friday night. OSU fell behind
2-0, 3-1, 4-2, and was down 5-3 just 1:17 into the third period, but rallied
with four goals in the last ten minutes--two on a power play and the
game-winner on a 5 on 3--to pull out the victory.

The key play of the game was late in the third with the score tied at 5. OSU
had control of the puck in the BG zone and BG's Paul Basic committed a penalty
(hitting from behind). While one ref was waiting for the delayed call as OSU
maintained control, BG's Jeff Wells also hit from behind, and both were taken
off the ice at the next break to give OSU a 5:3 advantage for two minutes.
There was a lot of yelling from the BG bench. OSU capitalized on the
opportunity, scoring their second 5 on 3 goal of the night, and taking the lead
for the first time at 6-5. OSU iced the game with two seconds remaining as
Phil Cadman outraced a BG winger to a loose puck at center ice, passed to Sean
Sutton who put the puck in the empty net.

Another comical note from the evening were the coincidental minors given to
OSU's Sandy Fraser and BG's Brian Holzinger. They got tangled up as Holzinger
broke into the OSU zone, and both fell to the ice. They were taken off for
coincidental tripping. Seems like a strange coincidental when you think about
it. :-)

BGSU outshot OSU 17-3 in the first period, and OSU returned the favor in the
second, outshooting the Falcons 15-5. Clarke was brilliant for BG in the
second as many of his 14 saves were of the spectacular variety, and OSU could
have easily scored 5 goals in that period alone with a lesser effort from the
opposing goaltender. For OSU, Tom Askey looked a little shaky in the first
period (his four goals allowed gave him 12 GA in his prior 4 periods of work to
that point), but recovered to play a strong second and third period. Neither
goalie got much help from his defense however, and many of the goals scored
were of the "no chance in hell" variety.

Askey's key moment: with OSU dominating the second period, but being held to
just one goal by Clarke and still trailing 4-3, BGSU got a breakaway. A goal
on that breakaway could have been a backbreaker, but Askey made a spectacular
glove save to keep the Bucks within 1.

Stupid Hockey Fan Quote of the Night:

"Don't set it up, just shoot!" Sigh.

BGSU and OSU get it on tomorrow night at Bowling Green at 7pm (?)
