Over the past few years, I have been asked to do special versions of The
College Hockey Computer Rating for a league. I always declined because the
league play-off seedings have been decided solely by points.

But things are different for the CCHA now. The placement of Fairbanks from
7th to 12th will be based on how it does in its 11 games with CCHA full
members. This situation is just crying for some sort of ranking system, so
we can see how UAF has done with respect to everyone else. So far, the answer
is simple: UAF is doing VERY WELL!

TCHCR die-hards will notice a few differences in the format and such. I am
planning on carrying these changes on to TCHCR.

*The "League record" includes CCHA league games and games with the affiliate,
which are the games that will determine the seedings for the league play-offs.
So far, this includes 42 games. Alaska-Fairbanks will be seeded from 7th to
12th, with the other positions determined by league points.

PERFORMANCE is based on won-lost record only; game sites and margin of victory
are not considered, for example. Performance ranges from +100 (for an undefeated
and untied team) to -100 (for a winless and untied team), with a .500 winning
percentage getting a zero performance.

SCHEDULE is the average rating of a team's opponents.

RATING is the sum of performance and schedule and represents an evaluation
of how each team has done so far with respect to the rest of the league.

The PTS column is the ranking of the teams based soley on points earned in
CCHA league games.

NOTES
Alaska-Fairbanks is ranked #1 because of excellent performances against fair
opponents (Miami, Ohio State, Ferris). Compare that with Lake Superior, who
has a similar record but has done it with an easier schedule.

Please note that home ice is not considered in the rating. All of UAF's six
games have been played at home. Miami, Ohio State and Bowling Green have only
played two home games so far.

Although several teams have played over a fourth (8 of 30) of their league
games, UAF has already played over half of its games against CCHA league
opponents. The Nanooks still host BGSU once and WMU twice and travel to MSU
for a pair.

CCHA Rank uses the same mathematical system employed by The College Hockey
Computer Rating.
