Pat Flemming showed up at tonight's game...of course, that means that it went
into overtime. How many times in a row is this Pat? It was a fairly
well-played game, but OSU benefitted a few times tonight from LSSU failing to
find the puck and convert on several 2 on 1 opportunities or failing to find
the wdide-open man in the slot that OSU kept giving them.

The stories of the game:

LSSU's Wayne Strachan gets a hat trick.

Both teams start their back-up goalies. Adam Thompson filled in for Blaine
Lacher in LSSU's net while Jim Slazyk played in place of Tom Askey. (Slazyk
was not a big surprise after the pounding Askey took last night. Slazyk came
in about 1/4 of the way through the third last night and played well, so I kind
of expected to see him tonight.

OSU's Slazyk makes 18 saves in the third period and overime (7 in the OT alone)
while Thompson only makes 4 saves in that same 25 minute span. (Gotta hate 4
of 6 goaltending if you are an LSSU fan.)

OSU's Glenn Painter puts in the tying goal at 19:48 of the third with Slazyk on
the bench for the extra man.

OSU fights off an LSSU power-play in the OT while Slazyk makes three brilliant
saves (a deflected shot, the subsequent rebound and then a point blank shot
jost a few seconds later) to preserve the tie.

OSU played consistently and were not plagued by the lethargy and the standing
around in their own zone that cost them so dearly last night. LSSU seemed to
have shown up in the first period thinking that they could just go through the
motions and have the result come out the same as on Friday. By the time they
realized it was a game, OSU believed it could win and it was a struggle the
rest of the night. Give the young OSU squad some credit though, they played
very solid defense most of the night, getting back and clearing pucks away when
needed and Slazyk played very confidently in goal. (Although two of LSSU's
four goals were very stoppable, Slazyk made many brilliant saves including a
couple of nice 2 on 1 blocks.)

The "OOPS! Hey, Nice Assist!" Award goes to:

OSU's Tim Green. Green took a pass from behind the net, brought it between the
circles, wound up and completely mufffed the slapshot, sending it well to the
right of the net and with only a little more power than a weak pass. However,
Thompson had come out to challenge and had gone down on the ice to block the
shot, allowing Eddie Choi to slide the errant puck into the net behind him.
Result: OSU 2, LSSU 2 at the second intermission.

Scoring:

       1 2 3 OT T
LSSU 0 2 2 0--4
OSU 0 2 2 0--4

Shots:

       1 2 3 OT T
LSSU 5 11 13 7--36
OSU 5 11 5 1--22

Goalies:
LSSU--Thompson (18 saves, 22 shots)
OSU--Slazyk (32 saves, 36 shots)
