I was asked the other day about the history of the WMPL poll, so I talked
to Bob Olson (owner of WMPL) today at the Blue Line lunch.

The Poll was first started by Gary Bender in Madison in the early 70's at a
station called WKOW. after the first year it was dropped, and then picked up
a year after that by WMPL. Dennis Hanks (then sports info director here at
MTU) and Bob Olson decided to run it here at WMPL. Bob ran the poll and
   Dennis distributed it.

The poll is of 10 Coaches nation wide.
                3 from WCHA
                3 from CCHA
                4 from the eastern schools

There have been many polls come and go since the WMPL poll started. Bob seemed
to like the idea of OUR Hockey-l Composite Tad poll, combining the albany, WMPL
and Hockey-l poll together.

For the second week in a row, college hockly fans in the upper Peninsula of
Michigan have their dogsleds and snowmobiles out trying to get to the games
At last report from Steve in Marquette, they were just hitching up the team
to plow thru the storm (5-10 inches predicted) to get here in time for us
to get to dinner before the Game. Another Hockey-ler Cathy Alzapiedi from
New York (a friend of Bob Mancini) was flying into marquette at noon then
Driving the 2 hours here to join us also......Still waiting on her call
as of yet. Ain't winter fun! ;-)

Joining us on the trip back to Marquette Tomorrow are fellow MTU Hockey-lers
Dave and Linda Fredrickson, for the game and Dinner after with Steve
Christopher from NMU. Thanks to Hockey-l for the oppertunity to get together
with people from other schools! its a mini Hockey-l get together in The U.P.
 this weekend! ;-)
