The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for November 4, 1992:

Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.

In the first post-election HOCKEY-L poll, the Michigan Wolverines give up
the #1 spot they gained last week, with the top ranking going back to Maine.
The week's biggest loser (besides George Bush) was Michigan State, which not
only dropped a pair to Miami but also fell from #6 last week all the way out
of the Top 15 this week. (Conversely, Miami makes its first appearance of
the year in the poll) The HOCKEY-L poll has been rather volatile in its
first few weeks, which is not unexpected...

This week, an even split between the East and the West. Are we aesthetic-
ally pure or what?

Thanks again to Coach Schafer for the Times-Union poll and to John Haeussler
for the Hancock poll. (John, where is that one from?) Here's a comparison
between the HOCKEY-L poll and the other two. As was the case last year, it
seems that the HOCKEY-L poll pays more attention to "non-mainstream" teams
like Alaska-Anchorage than the media polls do:

                                             Times-
                                 HOCKEY-L Union Hancock
     Team Record Rank Rank Rank

     Maine 3-0-1 1 1 1
     Lake Superior 4-0 2 2 2
     Boston University 1-0 3 3 3
     Clarkson 1-0 4 4
     Michigan 3-1-1 5 6 4
     Wisconsin 3-1 6 5 4
     Minnesota 2-2 7 7 7
     Alaska-Anchorage 3-1 8 (14)
     Denver 4-0 9 9 6
     RPI 1-0 10 (12)
     Harvard 0-0 11 8 10
     Miami 3-1 12 10 8
     Michigan Tech 3-1 13 (11) 8
     Boston College 2-1 14 (15)
     Western Michigan 2-1-1 15 (13)

Note the Western slant of the Hancock poll, which boosts Denver and Michigan
Tech and doesn't even list supposed-to-be-good Clarkson. This, coupled with
the Times-Union's usual Eastern slant (not quite as obvious this week) makes
the Tadpoll composite perhaps a little more meaningful, or useful, or some-
thing:

     1. Maine (3) 45
     2. Lake Superior 42
     3. Boston University 39
     4. Michigan 33
          Wisconsin 33
     6. Minnesota 27
     7. Clarkson 24
          Denver 24
     9. Harvard 19
     10. Miami 18
     11. Michigan Tech 16
     12. Alaska-Anchorage 10
          RPI 10
     14. Western Michigan 4
     15. Boston College 3
