The College Hockey Discussion List Poll for October 28, 1992:

Teams were given 15 points for a first-place vote, 14 for a second-place
vote, and so on down to 1 point for a fifteenth-place vote. Total first-
place votes are in parentheses.

With six of eight first place votes this week, the Michigan Wolverines surge
past preseason #1 Maine into the top spot in the HOCKEY-L poll. The big
mover, though, is Alaska-Anchorage. The Seawolves jumped six spots in the
poll off their weekend sweep of Northern Michigan -- in the process knocking
the Wildcats out of the top 15 for the first time in the history of the
HOCKEY-L poll. Perhaps even bigger news is the presence of the Denver
Pioneers in the #15 spot after their two wins over Minnesota-Duluth. Not
only is this the first time ever that Denver has cracked the top 15, it's
the first time they've ever gotten any votes at all.

No Eastern-Western split this week, as there was only one Western response
sent in. However, here's a comparison between the HOCKEY-L poll and the
ones from the _Albany Times-Union_ and WMPL (thanks to Coach Ric Schafer and
Bob Gilreath for sending those in). Note that the "official" Times-Union
poll is a Top 10 -- I've stretched it to a Top 15 by adding the teams and
points listed under "Others receiving votes".

     Alaska-Anchorage 2-0 8 (15)
     Wisconsin 1-1 9 8 8
     Harvard 0-0 10 9 10
     RPI 0-0 11
     Providence 0-1-1 12 (11)
     Boston College 1-0 13 (12)
     Michigan Tech 2-0 14 10 9
     Denver 2-0 15 (14)

Here's a Tadpoll composite of the three polls above: HOCKEY-L, _Times-
Union_, and WMPL. (For those who haven't seen this before, it's called a
"Tadpoll" because the composite is a "tad" better than a single media poll.
Credit goes to Keith Instone for that one) Teams receive 15 points for a
first-place vote in any of the three polls, 14 points for a second, etc.
Since WMPL only ranks 10 teams, some of the Top 15 wind up getting a little
short-changed in this composite. This gets more interesting with more media
polls to munch together, but here's a first look anyway:

                              Pts.

     1. Michigan (3) 45
     2. Maine 42
     3. Lake Superior 38
     4. Boston University 36
     5. Clarkson 33
     6. Minnesota 31
     7. Michigan State 28
     8. Wisconsin 23
     9. Harvard 19
     10. Michigan Tech 15
     11. Alaska-Anchorage 9
          Providence 9
     13. Boston College 7
     14. RPI 5
     15. Denver 3
North Dakota 3 [North Dakota was ranked 13th in the
                                    Times-Union poll]
