Some observations:
1. The Red-White scrimmage is not listed, since the game time hasn't been
finalized. Ordinarily, the game would take place on the Saturday
before the regular season starts, but since that's Halloween night, it
will probably be moved to Friday night or Sunday afternoon.
2. It's good to see the Big Red, along with other ECAC teams, making the
effort to schedule games with their old foes from Hockey East. Over
the past few years, Cornell has played BU and Northeastern, and has
done a home-and-home series with BC. Providence concludes its home-
and-home with the Big Red on November 28 -- these two had a terrific
rivalry in the ECAC playoffs in the late '70s and early '80s. There's
also the possibility that Cornell might schedule a game or two with
Maine; I recently caught a glimpse of a letter from Maine head coach
Shawn Walsh to Cornell's Brian McCutcheon, which seemed to suggest a
home-and-home series. Hopefully, that will work out.
3. I'm happy to see Cornell return to its holiday-tournament-playing
tradition with its participation in the Cleveland Hockey Classic, but
that's going to give the Big Red six away games in a row over the
winter break. While that's not as bad as the stretch a couple years
ago which saw them play eight straight on the road, it might be a
little rough for such a young team. Only three of Cornell's first
eleven games are in the friendly confines of Lynah Rink. The flip
side, of course, is that ten of their last fifteen games are at home.
If Cornell is in contention for a quarterfinal-home-ice spot (it could
happen), that stretch is going to help out a lot.
