I have this sports calendar sitting on my desk that I received as a
Christmas gift last year. This is today's entry:
 
7/27/88: Frank Zamboni, creator of the ice-resurfacing machine, dies of a
heart attack at the age of 87. Strangely, a cult had formed around the
inventor and his machine, a racehorse had been named after him, and a
Zamboni fan club had been formed at Michigan Tech.
