St. Lawrence University senior Martin Lacroix will be unable to play
in the NCAA tourney due to a broken ankle suffered in the ECAC semifinal
victory over RPI. Martin is the Saints third leading point scorer
(behind M. Lappin and LaPerriere) and second ranked goal scorer (behind
M. Lappin) despite missing the entire month of February (10 games) with
a broken wrist. Martin may be SLU's best stickhandler and was a key
member of the power play crew which was considerably less powerful
during his absence. A tough way to end his senior year.

On a happier note - Mike Allain who appeared to suffer a scary neck injury
in the ECAC Final is apparently fully recovered and will play in Providence.

On a bizzare and scary note - The Canton Pavilion (town ice rink) was closed
down yesterday after someone dumped a bottle of herbicide into the Zamboni
water tank. My daughter's figure skating club was on the ice and complained
about what appeared to be a strong paint odor in the arena. Then several
started to feel nauseous and others who fell quickly developed a rash wherever
they touched the ice. The building was immediately evacuated. Police and health
officials found the empty herbicide bottle in the Zamboni room. A criminal
investigation is underway and rumor has it that a "prime" suspect has been
identified. No long term problems for any of the skaters, but the ice is now
being taken up early and handled as toxic waste.

On a final positive note - In an earlier post on successful Canton hockey
teams, I neglected to include the Canton-Potsdam Silver Blades - the local
Girls Midget team (13-19 year olds) who won the NY State Championship and
are headed to Duluth next weekend for the national championships. Any
list members from the Duluth area?
