11 WCHA Players Invited to 1998 USA
Hockey Summer Challenge
 
MADISON, Wis. -- A total of 11 current and incoming players from the
Western Collegiate Hockey Association have been chosen to the roster of
55 top Under-20 American players invited to the 1998 USA Hockey
Summer Challenge, set for August 7-15 at the Olympic Arena in Lake
Placid, N.Y.
 
The Summer Challenge will feature National Under-20 teams from Finland,
Switzerland and Sweden in addition to two U.S. teams divided into East
and
West. The tournament will be a round-robin event, with the first ganes
scheduled for Monday, August 10.
 
WCHA veterans named include forwards Dustin Kuk from Wisconsin,
Justin Morrison from Colorado College, and Erik Westrum from Minnesota.
Kuk was also a member of the 1998 U.S. National Junior Team.
 
Incoming WCHA freshmen (1998-99 season) selected to the USA Hockey
Summer Challenge include goaltender Adam Hauser (Minnesota),
defensemen Aaron Dwyer (St. Cloud State), Jordon Leopold (Minnesota),
Mike Stuart (Colorado College) and Dave Tanabe (Wisconsin), and
forwards Tyler Arnason (St. Cloud State), Matt Doman (Wisconsin), and
Doug Meyer (Minnesota). Hauser, Leopold, Tanabe, Doman, and Meyer
were members of the 1997-98 U.S. National Under-18 Team.
 
The USA Hockey Summer Challenge also serves as an evaluation camp for
the 1999 U.S. National Junior Team, which will participate in the 1999
IIHF
World Junior Championship next December and January in Winnipeg,
Manitoba.

USA West vs USA East, 5 pm
Finland vs Switzerland, 8 pm
 
Saturday, August 15
3rd Place vs 4th Place, 5 pm
2nd Place vs 1st Place, 8 pm
