It's happened many, many other times - too numerous to mention or even
know about -- and it's happened in the NHL as a matter of fact - at
least twice. Dino Cicarelli, for one. A Boston player in the early
70's was "assaulted" (by a North Star I believe - or vice versa) and
there were charges filed.
