Just a couple of brief comments about the game as it is now 1:50 am.
The game started out with UND taking a 2-0 lead. UM then scored
two quick goals which UND answered with one more to make the score 3-2
after one period. After the second period it was 5-4 as UM once again
scored two goals in rapid sucession. The goal of the night came from B.
Bonin as he skated past at least four Sioux players and got the puck past
Kvalevog. However, in the third, UND tied the game, then took the lead
twoard the end of the period. UM eventually pulled their goalie
leading to a highly dramtic close to the game as UM had a 6-5 advantage
(most of it in the Sioux zone) the last two minutes. With two seconds
left, UND scored an empty-net goal, and the game ended 7-5.
QUICK COMMENTS:
Blais pulled Kvalevog in the third period and let Freshamn Vicker
(sp?) play the rest of the game. This was a very "gutsy" call, as UM had
several great scoring oppourtunities. Vicker had a very good game and
deserves part of the credit for the win.
DeBus had a two-day save percentage of 33% after the first
period. I am unsure if UND was lucky, or if he was having a bad weekend.
UM outshot UND 18 to 6 after the first period, but UND was ahead 3-2.
With the win, the Sioux are now in fourth place in the WCHA.
The officiating was questionable on both sides. However, I didn't
feel that it greatly favored any team over another. I noticed at least
one terrible icing call against both teams, and a bad high-sticking
penalty against UND. Otherwise, it seemed fairly consistent as teh refs
let the play be very physical.
Finally, it was great to see another sell-out at Englestead
arena. Hopefully, these two games are a sign of the rest of the season
for the Sioux.
