After stopping off at Meehan Auditorium to pick up the mail and partake of
some home cooking (Dartmouth, 4-2) as well as a bitter pill (Vermont, 2-5),
the Brown Bears warm up the bus again for a drive up the Mass. Turnpike to
the Tri-City area (Albany, Schnectady & Troy) for weekend games with R. P.
I. and Union.

Friday night - Houston Field House will seem downright subdued in
comparison to the usual bedlam generated for a Big Red Freakout Night
(Brown has been the Engineers' Freakout opponent in four of the last five
years, but thankfully, not this season). The Cherry & White seem to have
found their elusive scoring touch against Yale last Saturday, as they
tallied six goals in a dominant performance. It's always fun to watch a
game at Houston, although R. P. I. could improve on the Section 1 end zone
seats they allot for visitor fans. And this will be our first look at the
new RENSSELAER sweaters as well as another opportunity to hear Jason and
Kurt on WRPI (91.5 on your FM dial).

Saturday night - Bruno has never found Achilles Rink a hospitable venue.
Even in their most difficult seasons, Union has always given Brown all it
could handle for sixty minutes and more. Here again, the Skating Dutchmen
are coming off a six-goal explosion at Princeton last Saturday and should
bring a measure of confidence into this weekend's games. Swell.

Overall, the Bears will face-off against two teams who have also struggled
during the first half but who have been bolstered by some uncharacteristic
goal production in their last outings -- ah yes, timing is everything! I
think Brown and Harvard will probably have their hands full, but these four
teams are very closely matched and my guess is that all four games will be
decided by the quality of the goaltending - likely Parsons vs.
Tamburro/Tracy vs. Koenig on Friday nite, and then we'll see who's tapped
for the Saturday games. One thing's for sure, Brown will have to clamp
down on R. P. I.'s Bryan Richardson and Union's Reid Simonton to emerge
with some weekend points and thereby make some forward movement in the ECAC
standings.
