   The Minnesota Daily reports today that Mankato State (MN) wants to
move from Division III to Division I, and possibly join the WCHA within
five years.  The city of Mankato has approved funding of a new 4,500 seat
arena for the Maverick hockey team.  Mankato State athletic director Don
Amiot said, "We have informed the commissioner of the WCHA (Otto Breitenbach)
that we are very interested in possibly joining the league.   If the new
facility is ready within two years as is scheduled, we could realistically
have a fully functioning and successful college hockey program in the WCHA
five seasons from now."
