In a rematch of last year's title game, the RIT Tigers (2-1) beat the
Brock (St. Catharines, ON) Badgers (3-7) to capture their fourth straight
RIT Tournament championship, 12-3. Both Senior Captain C Tom Masaschi and
Sophomore C Jay Murphy (four goals) had hat tricks for the Tigers. Murphy
was named tournament most valuable player and Masaschi was chosen as an
All-Tournament team forward.
Also on the All-Tournament from RIT were Sophomore D Kyle O'Brien,
Sophomore D Mike Heaney and Freshman G Derrick Barnett (a Rochester area
native). The rest of the All-Tournament team consisted of Brock
Sophomore C Darren Macoretta and Junior RW Tim Thompson from North Adams
State.
With the 12-3 win, RIT broke two tournament records: most goals in a
game (12, formerly 11 by McMaster vs. RIT in 1981) and most goals in a
tournament (16, formerly 15 by McMaster in 1981 and UConn in 1985). Tiger
C Tom Masaschi also tied the tourney record for most points in a game (6,
now shared with Grey Bullen of McMaster in 1981).
In the consolation game, North Adams State (1-1) beat Concordia (6-6).

Game Summaries
--------------
1st Round
   Brock 8, Concordia 4
The Concordia Stingers (Montreal, PQ) led 4-1 in the first before
Brock Badgers roared back with six straight goals to win the
contest. Senior RW Chris Viau had a hat trick for the Badgers and
Brock G Pat DiPronio was strong in 49 minutes of relief (26 saves
on 28 shots). Concordia is at the top of the OUAA East and Brock
is in the lower half of the eight-team OUAA West.
RIT 4, North Adams State 3 (OT)
With beautiful close-range shots, Junior C Scott MacNair scored the
game-tying goal in the third and Sophomore D Mike Heaney tallied the
winner for RIT in overtime. Freshman LW Jake Sisk and Junior RW
Josh Pagliaro also scored for the Tigers. Scoring for the North
Adams State Mohawks were Senior D Tom Tormey, Junior F Tim Thompson
      and Senior F Tom Gallagher.
Both goaltenders were strong in the nets. Derrick Barnett made
25 saves for the Tigers and Junior Dave Flint kept the Mohawks in
the game with 16 saves on 17 shots in the third period and 43 saves
      overall.

2nd Round
North Adams State 7, Concordia 6
Concordia blew a 6-2 lead midway through the third period by
      allowing five straight goals.
   RIT 12, Brock 3
RIT had a 4-0 lead midway through the first and never looked back.
For the game, RIT had eight power-play goals including four in a
streak where RIT extended its lead from 6-2 to 12-2. C Tom Masaschi
had 6 points on the night (3-3-6) and C Jay Murphy had four goals.
RIT D Mike Heaney, who had a strong game in his own zone,
contributed three assists of his own.
Also scoring for the Tigers were Senior C Jim Kartes, Senior D
Al Morin, Senior RW Scott Martin, Freshman LW Greg Jarvis and Junior
LW Tom Roman. Brock's three goals were scored by Freshman LW Scott
Spittel, Sophomore Captain C Geoff Ingram and Sophomore C Darren
      Macoretta.

Notes... RIT coach Eric Hoffberg told his players to be very conservative
against North Adams State. Hoffberg wanted to avoid the same mistakes
that resulted in a 10-4 loss to Fredonia State on Tuesday. The restrained
style on Friday resulted in a 3-2 deficit going into the third period and
a poor forechecking effort. Hoffberg turned his players loose during the
third which produced a thrilling overtime win. He also let them go all-
out on Saturday and the team took on a much better, more confident
appearance...

This upcoming weekend for RIT is a home-and-home versus Geneseo State
(at RIT Friday and at Geneseo Saturday). Dave will have to fill you in
on the Friday game as I'll out of town on Friday. Hope to make it down
to Geneseo on Saturday, though.
