DAVID WENINGER TO ATTEND AND PLAY HOCKEY AT MICHIGAN TECH
      Goaltender Backstopped His Team to Centennial Cup Championships
 
        Houghton, Mich. -- Goaltender David Weninger (WHEN-in-jur), who
backstopped the Calgary Canucks to the Centennial Cup title, will attend
and play hockey at Michigan Tech next year it was announced today by
Huskies head coach Bob Mancini.
        The 6-1, 160-pound Calgary, Alta., native recorded a 41-19-0 record in
1994-95 and posted a 2.71 goals against average and .917 saves percentage
in the playoffs.  For his efforts, Weninger was honored as an Alberta
Junior Hockey League First-Team All-Star in addition to being named his
team's Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year.
        "Obviously we're very excited to have someone of David's capabilities
coming to Michigan Tech," said Mancini, who will begin his fourth year
behind the MTU bench this winter. "He's a solid goaltender with very good
fundamental skills. We look for David to come in and challenge for playing
time right away."
        The parents of Bill and Kathy Weninger of Calgary, Alta., David will major
in business at Michigan Tech.
        Weninger joins defenseman Tommi Hyyrynen and forwards Rob Kinch, Jarkko
Ruutu, and Lubos Krajcovic as Michigan Tech's freshman class of 1995-96.
