It's hard to believe that valuable space would be devoted to Gary Fay's name.
Gary Fay played at BU in the mid 70's and played on some pretty good teams.
His designated position was defenseman but, when it comes to him, I use the
term loosely. Gary Fay was basically a power play specialist who played, I
believe, right point on the power play. He did have a good shot and was good
at controlling the play at the point but, beyond that, there was not much. I
derived particular pleasure from the 1976 ("75?) Beanpot final vs. BC. BU was
on the power play but some how turned the puck over at the BC blueline. BC
captain Richie Smith took the puck, put a couple of basic fakes on the
overrated Mr. Fay, leaving him on his rearend, went in and scored the game
winning (or icing) goal for BC. There was a lot of talk back then of how
good he was when, in reality, there was not much there. I've heard he was a
pretty good baseball player too!(?).
