According to the people who taped the ESPN coverage of Maine/Michigan for
me, ESPN lost their satelite feed before the third overtime, and that is why
they went to golf.  They taped the coverage and as soon as they
re-establised the link, they showed it.  That seems to be more consistant
than just leaving such a great game.
