Union College entered the world of Division I hockey Monday as they
held their media day. I forgot to bring along the article from the
local paper, but here are a few things I remember from that article..

- Practice begins Tuesday, just 16 days before the season opener
against Merrimack. The late start is required under the NCAA rules.
Union is classified as a Division III school, with hockey being the
only Division I program. Coach Bruce Delventhal expressed some
concern that it would be difficult early in the season playing
against teams which have had much more ice time, but felt that any
advantage would only last for the first few games.

- Several of the seniors on the team were interviewed, including Rick
Clifford, Scott Whitney, and Craig Ferrero. All said that they look
forward to competing at this level, and Ferrero added that an ECAC
playoff spot is a reasonable goal for this season.

Region in the new poll out today. Cortland is #1, Ithaca is tied for
#2 with Union.
