Does anyone know how the conferences make their schedules?

Looking at the WCHA schedule, I noticed a few things that I was
wondering about

	- Wisconsin opens the season @ Michigan Tech -- and hosts
Michigan Tech 3 weeks later! This doesn't seem fair to either
team. Are there any other series very close together? (I
didn't look in too much detail at the entire schedule,
	  just the Wisconsin part. sorry):

	- The schedule is pretty balanced as far as home and road
games. Wisconsin never has more than 2 weekends in a row both
at home or both on the road (ignoring the holiday mess).

	- 6 of the 9 teams play home-and-home series (twice):
		Minnesota/St. Cloud State
		Northern Michigan/Michigan Tech
		Denver/Colorado College
(North Dakota and Wisconsin aren't close enough to anyone
else. I don't know how far apart Duluth and Minneapolis are).
How do the players, fans, and coaches view these series? Is it
better than the regular 2 games at home/on the road
	  series? worse? no difference?

	- Northern Michigan and St. Cloud home games seem to be at 7:35
on Friday nights but 7:05 on Saturday. North Dakota
sometimes starts at 8:05, otherwise at 7:35. Any particular
reason? Everyone else is pretty consistant... I know, this
isn't really important, but I am curious....

Are there some guidelines for what is a "fair" league schedule? Is
there some underlying logic to the schedules (other than
"fit it all in without too many complaints")? I imagine that it is
difficult making the schedule and taking into account shared buildings
school calendars, and who knows what else...
