To start things off, here is the information for the University of Maine.
1. The U of Maine Black Bears play in the Alfond Arena in Orono, Maine.
2. Individual game prices are $10 reserved and $7 standing room.
(Expansion seats $11; more on expansion below).
Tournament game prices are $12 reserved and $9 standing room.
3. The season ticket price is $170. Standing room tickets will be
made available this fall, for the entire season, but are not at
this time. Luxury sky-boxes won't be available until the 1992-93
season. Each box holds a minimum of 8 people and is available at
a cost of $120,000 for 10 years, payable immediately. :-!
4. Fans from visiting teams should obtain tickets at their ticket
office before traveling to Orono.
Major construction is now underway at Alfond Arena. It is *not*
expected to be complete for the 1991-92 season, however. Sell-outs
are expected for most or all games. Season tickets are available
via one of two waiting lists (benefactors and otherwise). The
current waiting list numbers 1200 people (3000+ tickets), though
only a handful now on the waiting list are expected to get tickets
for the 1991-92 season. Only 200-300 are expected to be offered
tickets *once the expansion of 1600 seats is complete* the
following year.
Poor Wayne Department: I've been on the list for more than 3.5
years and am now at position #301. No wonder I "work" the games. :-(
5. The U of Maine Athletic ticket office number is 207/581-BEAR.
Thanks to Ticket Office manager Pam Rideout for all the Maine
information in this posting.
6. Normal game time is 7pm; the doors open at 6pm. Though Maine sold
out all regular season games last year, with persistance, anyone
can usually get in by calling the first of the week and again the
day of the game or by waiting near the ticket booth until just
before game time (when the fire marshals decide how many additional
standing room to allow in).
7. Alfond Arena is easily found as it borders the entrance to the
University of Maine campus off Exit #51 of I-95 in Orono. Arrive
early to assure a parking place close to the Arena (just north of
the arena), otherwise expect a 5 minute walk from any of several
surrounding lots (signs and campus police will direct you).
The excellent Black Bear Inn is located in Orono at I-95 Exit #51
about 1.5 miles from campus. Many choices for motels and hotels
are available , including all chains, 10-15 miles away in Bangor.
Those folks flying to Orono will arrive at Bangor International
Airport, about 15 miles from campus (the campus is north on I-95
from the airport). Most major rental car outfits are available at
the airport.
Hope this helps! Let's get those cards and letters coming, folks!
P.S. Administrivia: I'm off to the beach for 10-12 days at the end of
this week and probably won't have access to HOCKEY-L. I expect no
problems, but any emergency questions may be directed to
[log in to unmask] or POSTMAST@MAINE in my absence. wts
