Isn't it funny that (probably) the worst place to PLAY division I ice
hockey is one of the better places to WATCH division I ice hockey? That's
right, the OSU Ice Rink (shack) is a true embarassment to such a
gargantuan institution with generally high quality athletic teams, but it
is a great place to watch a game. The seats are very, very close to the
ice, the tickets are cheap ($3.00), and there really are no bad seats in
the house, though there are only about 2500 seats in the whole shack.
Food is not exactly gourmet, it is the standard baseball park fare that
really is not too bad and not as insanely overpriced as at some other
schools. The fans are generally a weak point as they only want to see
fights because Columbus is rather new to hockey, though it is catching on
with the minor league Chill. The one exception to this situation is
when Bowling Green comes to town. BG brings a few knowledgeable fans
along with the standard yahoos that (like most OSU fans) only want to
see a fight. The atmosphere for OSU-BG games is actually pretty
exciting and pretty good. All in all, OSU is a pretty good place to watch a
pretty bad team- one of the nicest for fans in the CCHA.
