I hate to get into this but here I go.  Many (probably most, maybe
all) of the schools in HE have adequate even excellent academic
standards for their student athletes.
 
I think the issue is not that the requirements for admission to
Clarkson are the same as Harvard but that the requirement for
admission of  hockey players is roughly the same as the rest of the
students and this is a stated goal of the ECAC.
 
An image problem  for HE is that Maine visibly (because of their
troubles with the NCAA) recruits and admits Prop. 48 players for
hockey.  My impression is that the general requirements for
admission to Maine are significantly higher than those of a Prop. 48
player.  If this is not the case Maine is above reproach and any
insinuation that the ECAC is superior is unfounded in my mind.
