I posted here some time ago that Kerry Angus had transferred to UAH from
Lowell, where he had reportedly used up his eligibility.  I called the
hockey office today for more details and this is what they told me.
 
Angus was no longer eligible to play D-I hockey because of his age.  Our
hockey office said that the D-I rules preclude him from playing past
age 23 in D-I.  However, in D-II, older players are allowed to play.
I asked them if his status was at all related to having playing Junior
hockey in Canada, and they said not.
 
My past understanding was that guys who played Junior A and entered college
at age 20 or later lost a year of eligibility for every year they were over
19.  Ie. If a guy started playing college hockey at age 21 after having
played Junior A, he was only to be eligible for 2 years of competition
in D-I.  Perhaps the age rule is for everyone, though, not just
former Junior A players.
 
 
Hope this clears up some of the questions I got.  If anyone has a rule
book, I'd be interested to find where the specific difference is between
D-I and D-II that allow for a situation like Angus'.
 
At any rate, Angus seems to be doing quite well anchoring the UAH defense.
