Tony recently posted the Boston Globe's list of incoming players for the
Hockey East schools. I managed to track down that issue of the Globe (it
was last Sunday's), and here are the recruits listed for the ECAC schools.
I think Harvard's and RPI's recruits have already been posted, but they are
included below for the sake of completeness.
I'll also post the Div. II/III recruits to hockey-3.

Brown is losing some of their top guns this year (Mark Fabbro, Kelly Jones,
Chris Kaban), so the forwards might see some action pretty quickly. The
Bears' biggest loss, of course, is All-ECAC goalie Geoff Finch. The job
will probably go to Mike Parsons, but if Holowaty can adapt to the college
game quickly enough, he might force a rotation.

Just out of curiosity, are community college transfers common in the North
Country? I think I've seen a few CC players on Clarkson and St. Lawrence
rosters in the past. An experienced Claude Morin, one of Kent's top
scorers, will help make up for the departure of Hobey finalist Craig Conroy.
However, the Golden Knights will be scrambling to fill the void left by
departing goalie Jason Currie, a second-team ECAC All-Star.

I wonder if this was by design. Red Raider coach Don Vaughan is definitely
offense-minded, and his team is losing forwards Sam Raffoul and Bruce
Gardiner among others. The defense returns almost intact but could have
used a little shoring up. And I'm sorry to "dis" Ithaca Youth Hockey
product Jason Gates, but Colgate does not have much to speak of in the way
of goaltending.

Yes, Australia. Elliot is really from Canada, but his parents moved to
Australia some time ago. The Big Red's endless search for offense has
turned up Ryan Smart, who set a Meadville (near Pittsburgh) record with his
career total of 401 points. His 191 goals and 210 assists were also school
records. Whether he is a legitimately big fish or it was just a small pond
remains to be seen.

Well, they're going where the players are. The Big Green welcomes three
players from Minnesota and three more from Penticton, the team that Paul
Kariya made famous. A few years ago, Dartmouth brought in a class that had
a number of gems in it: forwards Tony DelCarmine and Scott Fraser, blue-
liner Mike Loga, and goalie Mike Bracco. It would help if the incoming
class had some top-notch players also, especially since all of those guys
are leaving this year.

things interesting...

Score one for the Tigers. Casson Masters looked like he was headed to
Cornell last year (and indeed was listed as a Cornell recruit in the Globe),
but he opted to move from Midget AAA into the juniors for a year instead. I
think he was only 17 and maybe felt he wasn't ready to make the jump to
college yet. Dunno if Martin Ouimet is related to Mark Ouimet, who played
for Michigan a couple years ago, but for what it's worth, they're not from
the same hometown.

It'll be interesting to see if Mike "5-7? On a Soapbox, Maybe" Tamburro
winds up with the starting job between the pipes now that Neil Little has
moved on. The Engineers bring in two defensemen to replace the two that are
graduating, so they are still apparently going to have a total of only six
-- and injuries and depth were a problem behind the blue line last year.
ST. LAWRENCE:

There should be a good competition for forward spots at St. Lawrence. The
Saints already have a lot of young players on offense who are looking to
fill the shoes of graduates Mike Allain, Mark McGeough, and Spencer Meany --
and them's big shoes indeed.

The Dutchmen have done a solid job of loading up on Division I players since
joining the ECAC, to the point where they don't have a lot of holes to fill.
(Certainly goaltending isn't one of them, with the Luigi Villa-Mike Gallant
tandem) Union says good-bye to its last Division III player, Jeff Jiam-
petti.
VERMONT:

Vermont got one heck of a lot of production out of last year's freshman
class, with ECAC Rookie of the Year Eric Perrin and Martin St. Louis at
forward and Tim Thomas between the pipes. Hopefully for the Cats, this
year's class will produce a couple of real finds as well. Wingers Travis
Lehouiller and Nicholas Perreault and defenseman Corey Machanic will not be
easy to replace.
Yale's recruits were not listed. A note in the Globe says, "A number of
other colleges were unable to provide information in time for publication."
