Summarized from the same CCHA press release:

The 95 CCHA playoff format was altered due to Kent's decision to drop
hockey. On the Tuesday following the regular season (3/7/95), UAF will
play at the 10th place team in a single preliminary playoff contest.

The Tuesday winner will join the top 9 teams in five best-two-of-three
series. If the #10 team wins, it plays #1, #2 plays #9, etc. If UAF
wins the prelim game, the #1, #2, #3 and #4 teams have the "right of
refusal" to play UAF or the lowest remaining team. This is the same
system used to seed UAF in the past.

The five campus winners will be re-seeded for the next round. #5 will
travel to #4 for a single game on Wednesday, 3/15/95. UAF would be the
visiting team if it plays in this game.

The #5/#4 winner will play the #1 seed in the first semi final game at
the Joe on Saturday, 3/18/95. #2 vs #3 in the second game at the Joe.
The championship game is on Sunday, with no consolation.

------------------
My notes:

You don't want to finish last.

Ending up #3 is a lot better than #4, since #3 is guaranteed to not
have to play that Wednesday game.

Finishing in 4th place in the regular season is much better than 5th,
since you can choose to avoid UAF if they win their first game.

UAF may have to win 4 games ON THE ROAD just to get to the Joe. I guess
if they win the #10 game and then are seeded #7 or higher AND #10, #9 and
#8 all upset in the two-of-three series, then UAF would avoid the
#5/#4 showdown, but that all seems very unlikely.

But then understanding this playoff scheme seems pretty unlikely, too.
