CCHA PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release--May 12, 1994

UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA FAIRBANKS ADMITTED AS FULL MEMBER INTO CCHA

ANN ARBOR--Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Council
(consisting of the athletic director and faculty representative from
each member institution) approved today the University of Alaska
Fairbanks' application for full membership into the CCHA effective with
the 1995-96 season.

The Nanooks have been an affiliate of the CCHA the past two years and
will be an affiliate for the 1994-95 campaign. The affiliate status has
guaranteed UAF the opportunity to participate in the CCHA playoffs.

Alaska Fairbanks' entry into the CCHA will give the league 11 full
members commencing with the 1995-96 season. ...

...

UAF Associate Athletic Director Kip Harmon said "today is the greatest
day in UAF athletics history. .... Today, UAF hockey has been elevated
to the highest level...full conference membership."

....

The 1995-96 CCHA regular season schedule will see five teams travelling to
UAF for a three-game weekend series, while the five remaining teams will each
host UAF three times during the year. The Nanooks will be playing 15-home
and 15-away conference games, while five teams will be playing 14-home
and 16-away (including three at UAF) games, with the remaining five teams
playing 16-home (including three vs. UAF) and 14-away contests. Each team
will travel to UAF every other year, and host the Nanooks on the years they
do not travel to Fairbanks.

The 1996 CCHA playoff format will have the top four regular season
teams hosting the fifth through eighth place teams, in the CCHA
quarter-finals. This format was approved by CCHA Council today.
