U-M's BERENSON PLEADS GUILTY
by Maryanne George, Detroit Free Press, Saturday, March 19, 1994

Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced
charge of impaired driving as part of a plea agreement with the Ann
Arbor city attorney's office.

Two other charges of urinating in public and drunken driving were
dropped for the plea, according to 15th District Court records.
Berenson, 54, was arrested early Wednesday outside an Ann Arbor bar
when a police officer saw him walking with difficulty and urinating
on a wall of a library.

Assistant Ann Arbor city attorney Tom Blessing said Berenson's plea
was with city guidelines for first offenders.

Berenson, who will be sentenced April 22, also agreed to perform 32
hours of community service and pay $100 in court costs. He faces
a maximum of 90 days in jail and a $300 fine.

Michigan plays Western Michigan in today's Central Collegiate
Hockey Association semifinals at Joe Louis Arena.
