Well, we now know for a fact that Maine has a much more
far-reaching recruitment and selection problem than
just in their athletic programs - where do they find
these clowns? Are there any more of you up there who'd
like to electronically open your mouths and, to paraphrase
Winston Churchill, remove all doubt that you are fools?
Apologies in advance to Wayne if this is a FLAME,
but these guys have already crossed the line in my opinion.

Brent nicely summed it all up for us:
> Let's Face the Facts. B.U is ranked #2 in the nation.
> Maine has beat B.U. once, tied them once, and lost
> twice.
> Maine is getting it's players back from the Olympics
> and Maine will win the National Championship again.
> It's that simple.

No, Brent, unfortunately it's not that simple. Maine actually does have
to play other teams besides BU. There's a rating system, RPICH (or are
5 letters too many for you?), that rates your performance, that of your
opponents, and that of their opponents. Well whether you look at the
new recently revised formula for RPICH or the old one, when you compare
Maine and BU, the difference in rating clearly comes from their own
performance:

// RPICH calculated with the new 25-50-25 formula //
> Opp OppOpp
> G W L T Win% Win% Win% RPICH
> 1 Boston University 31 23- 7- 1 .7581 .5776 .5180 .6078
> 5 Maine 32 16-12- 4 .5625 .5617 .5185 .5511
>
> // Now, here's RPICH calculated with the old 20-40-40 formula //
> Opp OppOpp *OLD
> G W L T Win% Win% Win% RPICH
> 1 Boston University 31 23- 7- 1 .7581 .5710 .5171 .5869*
> 4 Maine 32 16-12- 4 .5625 .5553 .5177 .5417*

Now if you want to whine about how you would have done better but for
the missing Olympians, Tough Grid! Hockey is a team sport. As for their
return guaranteeing anything, could I get a photo of them holding their
one gold, oops! almost - make that silver, and those several empty
spaces?

Tim is just as misguided:

> wah, heaven forbid BU has to play Maine, I have an idea lets cancel
> Maine's hockey program altogether because of an ADMINISTRATORS error.

Oh, maybe instead we should just cancel all the rules all teams
are supposed to abide by?

> Give me a break I am so sick of listening to BU cry and complain.

I didn't see too much BU crying after we kicked your butt 5-1.

> Maine has been given the toughest penalties for every offense ...

Now who's crying and complaining? It seems to me that forfeiting a
game for playing an ineligible player has been the standard for a while.

> and I'm shore the NCAA and HE will stick it to Maine again, ...

"stick it to"? Do you mean enforce a rule?

> ... so BU will get there wish and not have to play Maine again.

You're missing the point. Seeding for a tournament (again an *old*
tradition) is supposed to be based on relative performance and is
meant to reward better teams with an advantage in early rounds.
Although Maine's performance has not been as good as BU's, it sure
as hell has been better than BC and Merrimack (sorry Mike). So
the reasonable thing would be to seed teams based on actual records.
BU and Maine will probably play again, but it shouldn't be the first
round. And BTW, I haven't seen *any* BU fans calling for any harsh
sanctions on Maine like bans from post-season play, quite the opposite,
everyone seems to have been saying, "it's a shame the players get hurt."
Oh course, guys like you two are doing everything that you can to make
every one of us (even vegetarian pacifists) ready to hunt for bear.
Lighten up, guys.
