Chris Cervellero had a had trick for the Penn State Icers as they drowned the
U.S. Naval Academy 14-5 Saturday afternoon at the Ice Pavilion. Seven
different Icers score in the first period, and Penn State took a 7-0 lead into
the locker room. This period also saw Steve Karl, Jason Niedt, and Cliff
Graziano tally shorthanded goals. Icer goalie John Gray picked up his 19th
win, stonewalling the Midshipmen, stopping 18 of 20 shots in the first two
periods, while the Icers added six more in the second, and led 13-2. Dennis
Magulick replaced Gray at the beginning of the third, and made 10 saves on
13 shots, as the Icers scored once late in the third. Penn State goes to
24-0-0 on the season, while Navy falls to 10-4-2. The Icers are now outscoring
their opponents 227-51 this season, and need only 31 goals to reach the all-
time scoring record of 258 set in 1983-84 (Penn State played 40 games that
year). Also, the Icers are just two wins shy of the all-time record of 26
set in 1989-90. Penn State is back in action this weekend at the Ice Pavilion
for their final regular season home games. On Friday, the Icers face former
ICHL opponent Erie College, and face Towson State on Saturday. Earlier this
season, Penn State defeated the Erie Icekats 3-0 at Orchard Park, NY. PSU and
the Towson State Tigers have not yet met this season.
