I hope any Hockey-L die-hards who think I should have posted this at 4:30am
when I got in will forgive me, but I was a little tired after driving back
from Boston. As I see that someone has posted the box scores, I'll just add
a few minor ramblings that include reflection with random college students/
alums in T-stations and trains.
The start of the first period confirmed the Times Useless' suspicions that
RPI had no business in Boston this weekend. We had spent quite a bit of time
making our banner, and I was pretty depressed at how things were going.
Towards the end of the first period there was a bit of a spark, but as the
box score will show the second period was all RPI. What really impressed me
was the defense. In my three years watching RPI hockey, I've never seen
a strong defense. I've yet to watch (what we managed to tape of) the game
on tape, but I was stunned last night.
We were in some T-station (North, I think) and some students who'd come for
the Cornell-Clarkson game were shocked to hear that we'd blown a 3 point lead.
They'd left at 5-2 figuring they'd catch us tonight against Cornell.
Well, I was pretty surprised at RPI's post-season play, and after last night I
am pretty sure that Clarkson and RPI will be teams to reckon with in the
future. I can't speak for SLU or Cornell, but it seemed that RPI and Clarkson
still have a couple years of eligibility in their talent.
Oh yeah, as a final (KENNYZ) note, the officiating was HORRIBLE. The linesmen
seemed confused by such concepts as OFFSIDES and ICING. I won't even go into
THROWING THE PUCK. I'm not going to say that I have _never_ seen a more
poorly reffed game, but Murphy really did make me think that the NCAA was
paying him more than $4/hr to keep #10 from playing in Albany. KennyZ
(5 seats down) had no problem, but--SIT DOWN-- _FORGOT_HIS_RULEBOOK_
On that note, good luck to all in the **FINAL FOUR** (sue me), but I'm
pulling for MSU...
